The Instituto Trabajo y Familia (ITYF: Work and Family Institute) is a private NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), established in 2002, under the Presidency of Mrs. Pilar Nores de Garcia.

It brings together a group of female members that has as goal to contribute to the building of a society where the abject poverty will be eradicated, generating productive and educational capacities, and overcoming the malnutrition and the endemic disease, decreasing the social and economic exclusion.

We do not belong to the Peruvian government. Our activities have own goals, limited to our own financial resources, coming from private contributions and the international cooperation.

We are aware of going through an economic growth stage that allows a global improvement of Peruvians, but we also know that this growth, itself, does not equally benefit to all Peruvians.

There is a large area where the growth effects do not arrive in: The rural areas of abject poverty which are marginalized from modernity, especially the high-Andean communities of Peru, located over the 2,500 masl (meters above sea level), economic and socially isolated from the rest of the country.

In Peru, there are two types of poverty: The non-abject poverty, which is urban and characterized by its marginality expressed in the difficulty in inserting themselves in the labor market that decreases with the country’s economic growth.

But there is other poverty. The abject poverty which is difficult to decrease with the economic growth because it is better defined as exclusion, that is to say, is the lacking expression of utilities, electricity and tap water supplies, sewers’ facilities and communications’ means. That abject poverty mostly takes place in high-Andean areas of Peru and it is in this region where the largest children's malnutrition, maternal and children’s mortality, illiteracy and persons lacking identity papers indexes come up, and where the scarce agricultural production is used for self-consumption and barter.

The Instituto Trabajo y Familia (ITYF) had determined to implement the “Sembrando” Program in these populations, an ambitious and ethically effective program. Its goal is to link and strengthen the existing social capital in Peru, through two development approaches: Productive and social. This is not about trying to locate the poorest persons and give them social support, since the vast majority is in a similar situation. It is about the devise of Territorial Development projects that allows them to improve the family income giving a boost to the community’s productive organization, respecting their traditional habits and providing them with educational and technical tools for their development.

The ITYF invites you to be part of this effort according to your own possibilities with economic support and contributing in the spreading of the program aims. The road is open in SEMBRANDO. .
